Vice President Joe Biden is keeping his political options open for 2016, he said Thursday on NBC’s “Today” show.

“I am never ready to close the door on anything. That’s just a foolish thing to do,” he said in response to a question about his presidential aspirations. “I learned a long time ago, my dad used to have an expression, he said ‘Joey remember, never argue with your wife about anything that’s gonna happen more than a year from now, and don’t make decisions about anything that’s gonna happen more than a year from now.’”

Regardless of his future plans, Biden said he was maintaining his focus on the 2012 election and making sure President Obama gets a second term.

“I am intent on reelecting Barack Obama president of the United State of America, the rest will take care of itself,” Biden said.

Biden has consistently refused to count himself out as a potential presidential candidate in 2016.

In October, he said another White House run was certainly not out of the question, and that he’d make up his mind on the issue later.

“I wouldn’t have run for president in the first place and I don’t think the president would have picked me unless he thought I’d be good at the job,” Biden said then.

Biden ran for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2008, but dropped out after a finishing fifth place in the Iowa Caucus.
